Sham directs expeditious completion of renovation works on Pratap Canal

AKHNOOR, Mar 9: Taking serious note of poor management in the functioning of some water installations, Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today ordered suspension of one Junior Engineer, Som Nath Verma and called explanation of two Assistant Executive Engineers namely Sandeep Singh (Civil) and Anil Gupta (Mechanical) of PHE Sub-Division, Khour. Besides, he also ordered attachment of permanent staff manning the Water Supply Scheme (WSS), Old Kote Maira and dis-engagement of temporary workers with immediate effect.
During the inspection of various WSS in the jurisdiction of Sub-Division, Khour, the Minister found poor mismanagement of these schemes and also found some employees absent from the duty and ordered for the immediate action. He directed the Chief Engineer, PHE to ensure work culture in all PHE establishments strictly and anybody found violating the instructions should be punished under rules. He said the Administrative Department has already issued the advisory to improve the work culture to regulate water supply in a systematic way and these instructions should be implemented in letter and spirit.
The Minister also inspected the on-going repair and renovation works on Pratap Canal and its tributaries at several places between Jourian and Khour sections. Expressing satisfaction over the progress of works, the Minister directed the engineers to further speed up the pace and accomplish the renovation works on entire stretch of canal and its tributaries, so that the water is released well in time. He also directed for judicious use of funds and maintaining quality standards in execution of works. He also issued instructions to the concerned to remove all kinds of encroachments along the canal and restore its original look so that the water discharges upto the tail end.
Several deputations also called on the Minister and apprised him about the problems confronted in the areas. He issued on-the-spot instructions to the concerned officers to address the problems on priority.
The Minister also visited several areas along the border and took stock of the problems, especially related to drinking water and irrigational facilities. The areas visited included, village Rajwal, Panjtoot, Choudhrewala, Kaleeth, Tangri, Planwala, Plattan, Sailanwali and other adjoining localities.
Vice Chairman, OBC Advisory Board, Kuldeep Verma, Chief Engineer, PHE,  Ashwani Sharma, Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control, K.K.Gupta and sectoral officers of various departments also accompanied the Minister.
Meanwhile, Mr Sharma  dedicated a new model Panchayat Ghar to the people at village Rajwal, near here.
The Panchayat Ghar has been constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 20 lakh by the Rural Development Department under 13th Finance Commission and MG NREGA. The complex comprises of 4 rooms, one conference hall, one computer room and facility of public utility.
