JAMMU, Sept 11: The proud Natrang team of artists flew here today from Jammu to participate in ‘Shreshtha Bharat Festival’ (Best of India) being held in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu.
A 17-member group of artists headed by Natrang director Balwant Thakur and vice president Suresh Kumar includes Suraj Singh, Vikrant Sharma, Anil Tickoo, Gauri Thakur, Neeraj Kant, Subash Jamwal, Suraj Ganjoo, Mohd, Yaseen, Mahikshit Singh, Abhinav Sharma, Sumit Raina, Meenakshi Bhagat, Vrinda Sharma, Manoj Lalotra, Sushant Singh Charak and Shivam Singh.
The Natrang artists will present Balwant Thakur’s internationally acclaimed Dogri play ‘Ghumayee’ at Kootharangam, SZCC, Thanjaur, Tamil Nadu on Friday (13th of September). This is the first ever cultural performance of the state of Jammu and Kashmir which has made it to country’s most celebrated cultural festival.
Conceived, designed, scripted and directed by Balwant Thakur, this play has already made a mark for being the first Indian play which featured in Frankfurt Theatre Festival, Germany in the year 2009. It also has the distinction of having featured during the Commonwealth Games in the year 2010 and year of India in Russia where it was staged in Moscow, Yaroslavl, Belgrade and St. Petersburg.
Produced in the year 2000, this Dogri play has given a new intellectual identity to this part of the world. In past 17, it has been staged in over 50 National and International theatre festivals and has won accolades all over. On the occasion, Director Natrang Balwant Thakur informed that Natrang has plans to have its regular shows in Jammu and other parts of the state before the proud team leaves for Theatre Olympics.
