JAMMU, Sept 14: The Welfare Association of Zanana (Ladies) Park Jammu is up in arms against the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) against an alleged illegal construction of a building adjoining the park where women are regular visitors and if not checked, may create nuisance for the visitors.
In a letter dashed to the Joint Commissioner, JMC, the ladies members have appealed to him to dismantle the balconies being erected on the park side by some persons having ulterior motives in violation of the Building of Construction Act (BOCA).
Expressing resentment over the NOC issued by some officials at the helm of affairs in the JMC, the infuriated members of the “Zanana Park” said that permission had been accorded for construction of two buildings adjoining to the high raised boundary wall of the park, which was almost touching the boundary wall.
“The park had been developed and covered from all the sides to maintain privacy as various activities are being performed by ladies of all age groups but it was shocking that balconies and windows had been constructed on the side of the wall, which was overlooking the park and thereby the purpose of the park had been defeated,” they alleged in a letter.
“We have brought the matter into the notice of the concerned officers of JMC and the building owners were also approached by a deputation of ladies but they were adamant that they would not close the windows as they have “paid a hefty amount” to the wing concerned of the JMC,” claimed the “Zanana Park” members.
However, seeking action into the matter at an earliest, the members have warned that they would be constrained to take this issue to streets and lodge strong protest at every quarter if no action was initiated against the erring members of JMC as well as the building owners.
The ladies have also addressed the letter to the Advisor to the Governor of J&K, K K Sharma and the police authorities concerned for action.
Mayor JMC Chander Mohan Gupta said, “I have personally visited that place and ordered to stop the construction but if in case it has again started, fresh directions will be issued and we will take note of it.”
