JAMMU, Sept 16: Supremo of J&K National Panthers Party (NPP) Prof Bhim Singh has urged the President of India Ramnath Kovind to direct J&K administration for not using Public Safety Act (PSA) which has ceased after withdrawal of Article 35-A.
In a handout issued, Prof Singh said that after the withdrawal of this Article 35-A from the Constitution of India, the entire Chapter-III relating to all fundamental rights from Article 12 to Article 35 has become applicable without any reservation. In other words all those laws which were made by the Government/Assembly of J&K following the application of Article 35-A have also ceased to operate in Jammu and Kashmir, he added.
He urged the President to ensure that no action is taken with the application of PSA which was enacted by the J&K Assembly when Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was the Chief Minister in 1978.
Prof Bhim Singh urged the Governor for his urgent intervention to ensure that all those persons detained under PSA are released forthwith.
He also urged the President of India to seek appropriate information from the Attorney General of India K Venugopal, who is well averse with constitutional development in J&K.
