JAMMU, Sept 19: SKUAST-J scientists delivered lectures at CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, Palampur, during model training course on ‘Advances in protected cultivation of high-value vegetable crops’ for extension functionaries working in agriculture, horticulture and allied departments.
Dr. Vikas Sharma, Professor and Head, Division of Soil Science, SKUAST-J, delivered his lecture on ‘Soil fertility evaluation for efficient use of nutrients under protective environment’.
Dr. Sharma emphasized to go for the soil evaluation for fertilizer recommendations.
Dr. Vivak M. Arya, Assistant Professor, SKUAST-J, delivered his lecture on ‘Soilless cultivation of vegetable crops under protected environment’.
He gave an overview of the importance of aeroponics, hydroponics and soilless culture.
He said these production techniques are of utmost importance as land is shrinking and climate change is directly affecting the production system.
Dr. Vikas Sharma, Assistant Professor, SKUAST-J, delivered his lecture on ‘Anticancer potential of exotic vegetables of Jammu region’.
He discussed that a high intake of leafy exotic vegetables decreases the risk of several cancers in humans and long-term consumption of a diet rich in fruits and vegetables reduces the risk of chronic diseases especially cancer.
