5-day Naropa festival concludes, 408 artists perform Shondol

LEH, Sept 20: Breaking previous world record when 299 Ladakhis ladies performed the famous traditional “Shondol” dance during Naropa festival in 2018, 408 Ladakhis gracefully performed the “Shondol” dance today on the concluding day of 5-day Naropa festival.
The Dance was organized by Live to Love, Pel Drukpa Charitable Trust and Young Drukpa Association at Hemis Naro Photang. Local artists attired in their beautiful traditional dress with head gear “Peraq” made of the turquoise stone to set a Guinness Book of World record for performing largest number of participation in a dance.
Guinness World Records official adjudicate, Swapnil Dangarikar while congratulating the Ladakhis for breaking the record presented the record certificate to Chairman, Naropa Festival Organizing Committee, Drukpa Thuksey Rinpoche.
Dangarikar said that he is very happy to come here and witness this beautiful dance performed by the local ladies to set the record. J&K Culture Academy special Officer Tsewang Paljor said that it was challenging task to organize such mass dance which perhaps not happened in the history and at the same time it’s a great opportunity to showcase all regions artists on single platform and they performed the dance with great devotion and faith.
The five-days Naropa festival includes, UT celebration, Annual Drupka Council-a large gathering of Drukpa masters, scholars and Khempos, panel discussion with Naropa fellows, a panel discussion on the Eco-Cultural Entrepreneurship in the Himalayan region, public teachings (Pooja) ceremony, archery competitions, talk on environment issues and culture shows showcasing different regions of Ladakh.
The concluding day of Naropa Festival was witnessed by eminent Rinpoches, spiritual masters, hundreds of monks and nuns and devotees.
