JAMMU, Sept 20: Dr Raj Kumar, a Geologist of Geology and Mining Department, Government of Jammu and Kashmir, was awarded for his research paper, presented by him in 20th International Union for Quaternary Research (INQUA) Congress, held recently in Dublin, Ireland.
The research paper “Comparative Study of Silt Production under Natural and Simulated Conditions”, was selected for financial support by the INQUA.
Dr Raj Kumar conducted research work on Kol Glacier located at the catchment of Bhutna River, a tributary of River Chenab in Bhuzass area, Padder, Jammu and Kashmir, Naradu Glacier, Baspa valley, Kinnaour, Himachal Pradesh and Chourabari Glacier, Kedarnath Valley, Uttrakhand.
The laboratory simulation for production of silt was conducted by Dr Raj Kumar in Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom (UK) under BOYSCAST Fellowship awarded by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt of India. He produced silt in laboratory by grinding the quartz sand on Bromhead Wring Shear Machine by providing similar conditions as prevail in glaciated valleys.
