Army organizes rally at GDC Thanamandi

RAJOURI, Sept 21: A rally for Veer Naris, next of kins (NOKs), Ex Servicemen of Indian Army belonging to Rajouri & Poonch districts was organised at Government Degree College, Thanamandi today under the aegis of Rashtriya Rifles Counter Insurgency Force (Romeo).
The event was attended by approximately 163 Veer Naris, widows and 1665 Ex Servicemen, NOKs & dependents hailing from various regions from both the districts of Rajouri & Poonch.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest, Maj Gen. PS Bajwa, GOC, CIF (R) highlighted the contribution and sacrifices made by the Veer Naris and Ex Servicemen towards nation building and assured them of absolute support of the organisation. The General Officer also reiterated the resolve of Indian Army to work with the civil administration and local populace to bring about and maintain total peace and tranquility in the region.
The rally was conducted in close coordination with civil administration and Zila Sainik Board of Rajouri & Poonch with focus on redressal of grievances, addressing anomalies in disbursement of pension, land and legal issues of Veer Naris and Ex Servicemen and providing them information about Ex Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS).
A felicitation ceremony for Veer Naris & Widows was organised where in 1977 Veer Naris and 86 widows were felicitated.
The NOKs and Ex Servicemen were acquainted with various schemes and welfare programmes run by the Government.  Representatives of SBI, PNB, J&K Bank, Grameen Bank, Insurance departments and other financial departments also explained various schemes for the benefit of everyone.
A cultural program was presented by students of various schools of Thanamandi which included various events like group song, Solo speech, group dance, skit and a gravity defying acrobatic display.
Enthusiastic participation of the Veer Naaris, Ex servicemen and the local populace particularly the youth and school children who presented a colorful cultural programme during the event was a remarkable indicator of growing peace and harmony amongst the locals, civil administration & the security forces in the region. Overall, the event was yet another successful attempt by the Indian Army to fraternize with Veer Naris & Ex Servicemen and inclusion of the civil society in maintaining peace of tranquility in the region.
