500 kgs of poppy straw recovered, 3 smugglers arrested

KATHUA, Sept 23: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, SOG Jammu and Lakhanpur police achieved a major success by recovering a massive quantity of poppy straw and arresting the accused persons on spot.
Sleuths of Police Station, Lakhanpur headed by SHO Lakhanpur, Bharat Sharma recovered 500 kilograms of poppy straw which was being illegally smuggled in a truck bearing number JK22B-1273 under the jurisdiction of Police Station, Lakhanpur of district Kathua this evening.
The accused who were smuggling the contraband drugs in the truck have been identified as Showkat Ahmed Dar, S/o Ghulam Mohammed Dar, Mohammed Imran Khan, S/o Mohammed Ismail Khan, Shahid Nazir, S/o Nazir Ahmed Bhat all residents of Tulran Tehsil Imam Sahib district Shopian.
Reports revealed that, on a tip off special naka was laid by police party of PS Lakhanpur at Dhanote and checking and frisking was intensified. During the process, one truck bearing number was put to thorough checking. While conducting search of the truck 500 kilograms of poppy straw which was concealed in bags inside the truck was recovered.
In this regard a case FIR No. 64 /2019 US 8/15 NDPS Act stands registered at PS Lakhanpur.
The whole exercise was closely monitored by SSP SOG Jammu, Sandeep Mehta and was carried out under the supervision of SSP Kathua, Shridhar Patil.
