JAMMU, Sept 23: A 1 ½ year old girl child was crushed to death by a Mahindra load carrier in Sunjuwan area of city outskirts.
According to a police official, the deceased girl has been identified as Anushika daughter of Ishwar Dass, resident of Jhansi in Madhya Pradesh. He said the baby girl was sleeping on the ground near some cement bags at a construction site near Matador Stand, Sunjuwan, where her parents were engaged in labour work.
He said the vehicle involved in the mishap was also parked at the site and when the driver drove the vehicle for bringing some diesel from the petrol pump, he overlooked the sleeping child who came under the vehicle and died on the spot.
“After postmortem, the body was handed over to her parents while a case in this connection was registered at police station Channi Himmat,” the official added. He said the driver of the vehicle is on large and efforts are on to nab him.
