JAMMU, May 11: Centre for Biodiversity Studies of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) identified as Regional Resource Agency for DNA Clubs in J&K organised a Symposium on the “Miracles of Biotechnology”, in which students from various nodal schools of Rajouri, Jammu and Poonch participated.
The inter club symposium and also painting competition on the subject Nature was organised by the Regional Resource Agency as a part of the ongoing DNA Clubs programme sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.
During the event, Prof AK Koul, Dean School of Bioscience and Biotechnology and Mohd Rashid Chowdhary, Registrar, BGSBU were the chief guests while Heads of Departments, faculty, officers, incharge teachers and students were also present.
Vice Chancellor BGSBU Prof IA Hamal, complimented the organizing team for providing a platform for information sharing and talent promotion for young students.
Prof Koul in his address emphasized on the need for creating opportunities at schools levels for students to use their inherent capacities for innovation.
Mohd Rashid Chowdhary congratulated Dr Zaari for his untiring efforts while coordinating an impressive symposium and painting competitions for students.
Colonel KK Dogra, Principal, BGSBU Polytechnic while opening the symposium hailed selection of CBS as one of the RRAs for implementation of the national level DNA club programme in the State as an achievement.
Dr S Verma, Acting Director of CBS deliberated on the biotechnology subject and stressed on the need for sensitizing young students about the importance of such subjects as emerging career option.
Principal Investigator Dr Ashfaq Ahmed Zarri made a presentation regarding the Ministry of Science and Technology funded ongoing project.
On the occasion, mementoes and certificates were distributed to the winners of the inter club symposium competition.
Earlier, Mehvish Shawl presented welcome address and also compered the programme while Dr Zarri presented vote of thanks.
