Rape accused flees in VIP chopper, arrested

RAJOURI, Mar  11: Enacting a high drama amidst major tragic accident in Kotranka area,  a rape accused fled in a state helicopter used by the Chief Minister and other VIPs after he conned the police in Rajouri by mingling with accident victims being airlifted to Jammu.
Identified as Parvez Ahmed,  he pretended to be accident victim and  also managed to get the initial ex-gratia/ relief  of  Rs.5,000 given to accident victims before he boarded the aircraft in Rajouri for Jammu in full view of senior civil and police officers.
As he reached Jammu, while the victims were being taken to hospital, he disappeared and later returned to  Manjakote where he was arrested today.
DIG Rajouri-Poonch Range, Danish Rana said that after the rape victim reported the matter to Manjakore police Station,  the police started search  for the accused. He was nabbed today and the  money  which he managed to get from administration, was also recovered .
The State chopper, also used by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, was requisitioned by the district administration to shift people who had sustained serious in road accident at Manohar Galla in Kandi area on Friday to the GMC Jammu. The victims had first been taken to the district hospital in Rajouri town, about 150 km from here, where Parvez had got admitted the same day for treatment of deep scratches on his face suspected to have been inflicted by the rape victim. When he saw some of them being shifted out, he joined the injured lot without raising any suspicion. Parvez Ahmed managed to get free helicopter ride from Rajouri to Jammu and also got initial compensation of Rs 5,000 paid to the injured passengers.
On March 8, a woman had lodged a complaint at the Manjakote police station that Parvez had raped her when she was on way to Katarmal from Panj Grain village. An FIR 18/ 2013 was registered by police in this connection. 25-year-old  Parvez Ahmed, son of Sabir Hussain is a resident of Thanda Pani village in Manjakote.
Meanwhile, Minister  incharge Health Shabir Ahmed Khan has ordered an inquiry into the matter. He asked Director Health Services Jammu to constitute a team and submit a report to him for further action in this regard.  Dr V P Sharma  TB Officer Jammu and Dr Anoop Manhas (SV)  have been asked to hold probe and submit report within 3 days.
