JAMMU, Sept 26: A delegation comprising of students from Jammu University and other academic fields met Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and LoP Ghulam Nabi Azad and apprised him regarding the issues related to jobs and higher education.
Former Minister Manohar Lal Sharma and State Youth Secretary Jagjyot Singh were also present in the meeting.
The delegation submitted a memorandum and demanded that certain provisions like UPSC age relaxation to the domicile of J&K in Central and UPSC examination, reservation in State Government jobs for the youth of J&K, SRO 43 providing compassionate appointment, continuation of State Civil Services Examination (KAS), reservation for the youth of J&K in admission to various accredited institution/universities must be retained in their original form.
The delegation further added that provisions like UPSC age relaxation of five years to the domicile of J&K was implemented in order to compensate the years lost to violence, conflict and disturbance in J&K. Many candidates are yet to utilize the provision and thus untimely scrapping of age relaxation clause can disrupt the process of rehabilitation and integration, they added.
“With pretext to the increasing unemployment in India, the majority of youth in J&K is of the apprehension that with the scrapping of Art 370 and 35A, their right to 100% entitlement in State Government jobs, admissions to Universities and Accredited Institutions, and the age relaxation clause in UPSC, Central/State Civil Services Examination now stands null and void. With their careers hanging in the midst of political crisis, the majority of youth is worried about the consequences and repercussions of losing their job rights”, they stated.
The delegation also brought the recent survey conducted by Government of J&K in notice of Ghulam Nabi Azad. As per the recent survey conducted by the Government of J&K, there are around 3 lakh unemployed PG graduates in J&K and as per some estimates the number of unemployed PG scholars is way above five lakhs. Also, the unemployment figures from other academic fields and professional courses are alarming and worrisome, they stated.
The delegation further added that States like Andhra Pradesh have not only reserved seats in Government jobs but have also brought in legislations whereby they have reserved 70 per cent jobs for the permanent residents of Andhra Pradesh in private sector.
