Names of 17 non-State subjects deleted from voter lists: Manohar

JAMMU, Mar 11:  While the issue of  inclusion of  non-state subjects in the voter lists dominated proceedings in the Upper House today, the opposition PDP member Murtaza Khan raised strong protest and walked out of the House amidst allegations that minister’s response was not satisfactory and he was not allowed to raise supplementaries by the `chair’.
The issue was raised by PDP member during Question Hour in the Legislative Council. He sought the district wise details of such cases and asked what action has been taken by the Government after the cases were detected.   He also asked whether some mechanism was in place to take note of such cases and take appropriate action.
While responding to the main question of the member, Minister in-charge Elections Dr Manohar Lal Sharma said that in district Leh, 12 non-State subjects figured in the voter lists/ electoral rolls and their names have been deleted from the lists.  He also gave the details of the persons whose names were deleted from the list.
The Minister further pointed out that  in district Jammu one complaint of this nature  was received which was got verified by the Electoral Registration Officer and the names of five persons in the Polling Station No. 101 from serial No. 1131 to 1135 have been deleted.
The member, however, raised several other suplementaries  which however, were not allowed by the chair. Then staging protest the members walked out of the House.
