JAMMU, Sept 27: A confluence of academic, literary and cultural events, enthralled the audience and honored the achievers during ‘Cheten Di Lari’ event, organized by Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust in collaboration with Department of Dogri, University of Jammu here today.
Annual feature of the Trust – Cheten Di Lari, today in its fourth year honored toppers of MA in Dogri and English with three respective scholarships and also introduced Kunwar Viyogi Young Writers Award for university students who have published their writings while pursuing degree in the academic institution. The award has been introduced in the Department of Dogri and English respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu congratulated the Trust as well as the Dogri Department for holding the Seminar and called it a welcome step towards the development and promotion of Dogri language and literature.
The Vice Chancellor also awarded scholarships to Pallavi Sharma and Atul Sharma for topping in MA Dogri. He also awarded scholarship to Marvi Salathia who topped in MA English. Apart from that, Dhar also awarded Kunwar Viyogi Young Writers Award to Sunil Mehra for his collection of short stories in Dogri ‘Sees’ and to Pankhuri Agarwal for her collection 101 poems in English titled “The Petals of Reminiscence: A Step Back in Time.”
Trust Chairman Goverdhan Singh Jamwal while speaking on the occasion paid rich tributes to Late Chatterpal and highlighted many distinctive qualities of Chatterpal’s personality as a leading and an inspiring figure and his close association with the Trust. A two minutes silence was observed and it was prayed to All Mighty God to give peace to the departed soul.
Noted Dogri writer Raaz Manawari and Surjeet Hosh individually read papers on the works of Sahitya Akademi awardee Kunwar Viyogi.
“Geet Bajogi De” – a musical concert was also organised during the event that saw renowned Dogri singer Sonali Dogra noted writer Kunwar Viyogi’s songs.
