Justice Hali appointed Judicial Member of Armed Forces Tribunal

JAMMU, Mar 11: President of India, Pranab Mukherjee has appointed Justice Sunil Hali (retd) as Judicial Member in the Armed Forces Tribunal. Upon his appointment, he has been posted to Principal Bench of the Tribunal at New Delhi.
The tenure of Justice Sunil Hali as Member of Armed Force Tribunal will be nearly three years. He will be joining office on March 18. He is the first person from J&K to become Member of the Armed Forces Tribunal.
It is pertinent to mention here that the country’s first Armed Forces Tribunal, which was launched on August 8, 2009 after enactment of legislation by the Parliament in 2007, provides for adjudication of disputes and complaints about commission, appointments, enrolment and service conditions in respect of those covered by the Three Services Act and hearing of appeals arising out of orders, findings or sentences of court martial. The Tribunal has original jurisdiction in service matters and appellate jurisdiction in court martial matters.
Graduated in science in 1971 and passed LLB in 1973 from Jammu University, Justice Hali initially practiced in Jammu court and then shifted to Srinagar in 1977. He worked in the office of Advocate P L Handoo particularly on writ side and conducted many important cases in both wings of Jammu and Kashmir High Court.
He was elevated as Additional Judge of the J&K High Court on March 15, 2008 and appointed as Permanent Judge on March 5, 2010. He was transferred to Allahabad High Court and took oath on July 4, 2011.
He has delivered several important judgments, which include dismissal of petitions against Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in multi-crore NRHM scam in Uttar Pradesh recently.
