NEW DELHI, Mar 12: Turmeric prices rose by over 2 per cent to Rs 6,756 per quintal in futures trade today, extending yesterday’s gains as speculators engaged in enlarging positions on pick up in demand in the spot market.
Besides, expectations of lower output this season also supported the uptrend.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, turmeric for delivery in April gained Rs 134, or 2.02 per cent, to Rs 6,756 per quintal, with an open interest of 26,945 lots.
Similarly, the spice for delivery in May traded higher by Rs 136, or 2.01 per cent, to Rs 6,900 per quintal in 10,790 lots.
Market analysts said speculators enlarged their positions on pick-up in spot demand and expectations of lower output this season mainly kept turmeric futures higher. (PTI)
