NEW DELHI, Mar 12: Max Healthcare and HealthPoint Services India today said they have joined hands to provide healthcare services to rural patients of Punjab through telemedicine network.
The two companies have signed an MoU under which the partners will combine their efforts in the field of medical and healthcare services. Doctors of Max Healthcare will provide consultations to the rural patients at E Health Points (eHP), a health kiosk set up by HealthPoint Services.
Commenting on the partnership, Max Healthcare CEO, Ajay Bakshi said: “We believe that our partnership with eHP will demonstrate that successful use of technology and social entrepreneurship can lead to a massively scalable model to provide clean water and primary healthcare services from a single point of contact in a village or a small town.”
India currently struggles with primary healthcare due to a shortage of doctors and other trained staff, he added.
Initially, the partnership will focus in areas around Bhatinda, where Max Healthcare has a super speciality hospital.
“The whole concept is to bring quality but affordable healthcare services, which could be as low as Rs 30 per consultation, to rural areas,” HealthPoint Services India CEO Amit Jain said.
Through its eHP, HealthPoint Services India has set up a strong network of safe drinking water delivery points in Tier 4 towns and several villages in South Punjab. These points have video-conferencing facilities via which families coming to collect water can get doctor consultations.
“We have covered 400 villages and towns in our catchment area and the initial focus of this partnership will be in these areas,” Jain added.
When asked if the partnership will be expanded to other areas, Bakshi said: “We will have a review of this project every three months and if we find this is successful then we can replicate the model with our other hospitals, such as in Noida and Uttarakhand.” (PTI)
