Several organizations remember Gandhi, Shastri

JAMMU, Oct 3: Different organizations today celebrated Gandhi Jayanti and remembered Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
A colourful programme based on the philosophy of Gandhi Ji was organized by Jammu campus of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) where Social Worker, Padamshree Dr S.P Varma was the chief guest and the function was presided over by the Regional Director of IIMC, Manohar Khajuria. IIMC students presented skit, poems, speeches and songs on various aspects of Mahatma Gandhi’s life to mark the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Varma threw light on the philosophy of Gandhi Ji regarding non-violence, religious tolerance, mutual brotherhood and respect for one another. Vote of thanks was presented by Assistant Professor, Sanjit Khajuria.
On the eve of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi PG College Rajouri held a multilingual poetic meet on the theme of peace of harmony. Different speakers on this occasion deliberated on the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and their relevance in the present age. The programme was chaired by Dr. Abdul Qayoom Khan, Vice Principal of the College whereas Prof. Javaid Iqbal Mughal, Dr. Bashir Ahmed, Prof. Manzoor Ahmed Dar, Prof. Z.A Mirza, Dr. Mohd Saleem Wani, Dr. Abdul Haque Naime, Dr. Ashiq Raza, Prof. Aasia Rashid Bhat, Prof. Qamar Rabani, Prof. Gulshan Rashid Bhat, Prof. Mohd Jahangier Asgar, Prof. Asrar Ahmed, Prof. Arjun Singh Rathore and Prof. Mamoon Jami were also present.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated at Govt High School, Chak Murar, in block Bishnah. Sarpanch Nisha Sharma along with Panches of the Panchyat organized awareness programme on Swachta and stopping the use of single use of plastic.
To commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a three day workshop on ‘Skill Development’ was started today by KC College of Education at Pouni Chack. The volunteers along with their Teacher In-charge, Priya Gupta visited the Government Primary School, Pouni Chack and made the students aware about good and bad touch, drug abuse and use of ATM.
Sacred Heart College of Education, Paloura celebrated Gandhi Jayanti with enthusiasm. On this occasion, Hari Singh Chib, Managing Director of the College was the chief guest. Throwing light on the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi, Chib said that with every passing day world is realizing the importance of Gandhi Ji’s philosophy. K.K Tiwari, Principal of the College, while speaking on the occasion said that Gandhi Ji’s principles and values have faced changing and challenging conditions all these years but they still continue to remain relevant. Students of the College also spoke on the life history of Mahatma Gandhi.
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, celebrated 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi along with 116th birth anniversary of second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri. The celebrations coincided with the conclusion of various co-curricular activities, such as poetry and essay writing, drawing and other creative events organized by the Hindi Cell of varsity during Hindi Pakhwara-2019. An exhibition on Gandhi Virasat-Kagazkala was inaugurated by Padma Shri Prof. R.K Sinha, Vice-Chancellor, SMVDU and Neetu, DIG, CRPF, Jammu Range, at Matrika Auditorium, SMVDU. Prof. Sinha, in his speech, made a declaration that the university campus will be free from the single-use plastic from today onwards and emphasized the role of cleanliness in and around the campus.
On 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Fit India Plogging run was organized by J&K Olympic Association. The run commenced from Indira Chowk at 7:30 am and moved via Hari Market, Raghunath Bazar, City Chowk, Shalamar and concluded at Indira Chowk. Sportsmen collected the waste on the way and showed the way to keep the roads neat and clean.
On the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a one day awareness programme on ‘Principles of Gandhi Ji’ was organized at District Jail Udhampur as per the directions of DGP Prisons, V.K Singh and under the supervision of Harish Kotwal, Jail Superintendent and Naresh Sharma, Jail’s Assistant Superintendent. The jail inmates cleaned the prison premises and raised the slogan of ‘Say No to Plastic.’
An awareness rally was organized by the students and staff of Government Higher Secondary School, Top Neel Doda to mark the celebrations of Gandhi Jayanti. The rally made the public aware about cleanliness and stopping the use of single use plastic.
In the presence of Naushad Ahmad Khan, Secretary District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Jammu, a cleanliness drives was organized at Marh, Jagti, Bhalwal, Gole Gujral, Domana, R.S Pura, Bishnah and also from KV Bantalab on solid waste management and stopping the use of plastic.
In connection with 150th birth anniversary of Gandhi Ji, an interactive exhibition was inaugurated at Katra by PRO Defence Udhampur, Lt Colonel Abhinav Navneet, in presence of Deputy Director, Regional Outreach Bureau, Jammu, Neha Jalali and others.
In the digital exhibition, people can get the interactive knowledge of Mahatma Gandhi’s life and philosophies . The exhibition will remain open from October 2 to Oct 6, 2019. The exhibition consist a variety of highlights from Bapu’s struggle for freedom.
