MENDHAR, Oct 5: The people living along the Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote, Mendhar and Mankote area of Mendhar Sub Division in district Poonch have demanded establishment of Trauma Hospital and provision of bullet proof ambulances for them as they fall victim to the bullets and mortar shells of Pakistan from across the border quite often.
The locals of the area residing in these sensitive border pockets have been living under constant threat as Pakistan resorts to indiscriminate firing and mortar shelling very often and that too, on thickly populated civilian areas falling close to LoC in the district. The people who receive serious injuries during the cross border shelling need bullet proof ambulances to shift them to hospital for treatment besides establishment of a Trauma hospital was the need of the hour. Some times the normal vehicles get trapped in the firing for hours, thus putting lives of injured in the risk.
The political and social activists of the area also feel that this demand of locals a justified one, but only assurances and nothing in practical was done in this regard.
“We put up this issue before the District Administration a number of times but our pleas fall to deaf ears. We appeal to the Governor Satya Pal Malik to look personally into the need of border people especially Balakot, Mankote and Mandi sectors living close to LoC, and provide Trauma hospital with bullet proof ambulance facility to facilitate cross border shelling victims during border skirmishes in the district,” they maintained.
