SRINAGAR, Mar 12: Police today said that it has arrested three persons including the kingpin of a grenade attack in Kupwara that took place more than 15 months ago. The arrested kingpin is an over ground worker of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) and was wanted by the police for a long time.
A police spokesman said that Kupwara Police has solved a militancy case FIR No 369/11 under Section 307 RPC, 3/5 Explosive substance Act of Police Station Kupwara pertaining to a grenade attack on a bunker in General Bus Stand Kupwara on November 1, 2011. The spokesman said that Javid Ahmad Shah son of Ghulam Mohammad Shah resident of Shathmuqam Lolab an OGW of banned outfit HM, was the kingpin of the grenade lobbers and he has been arrested.
“During sustained questioning, the OGW confessed his involvement in the grenade attack besides the involvement of two more assailants namely Mohammad Abdullah Bhat son of Mohammad Sabir Bhat resident of Maidanpora-Lolab, OGW of banned outfit JeM who was involved in case FIR No. 07/12 under Section 302 RPC of police station Lalpora and Nawaz Ahmad Shah son of Maqsood Ahmad Shah resident of Shathmuqam, OGW of banned outfit HM. Both Abdullah and Nawaz were also arrested by the police,” said the spokesman.
It would be in place to mention here that in the ensuing blast three pedestrians namely Asif Ahmad Bhat son of Mohammad Iqbal resident of Thindipora, Bashir Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Ahad Mir resident of Drugmulla and Tasleema Bano daughter of Abdul Rehman Lone resident of Gugloosa had sustained splinter injuries.
