Free aids, artificial limbs provided to 98 specially abled students

RAMBAN, Oct 6: Free aids and artificial limbs provided to 98 specially abled students.
In a function presided over by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ramban, Dr Basharat Hussain as many as 46 specially abled children were given free aids and appliances at Government High School, Chanderkot today.
The function was organised by the Smagra Siksha under the aegis of its Director, Dr Arun Manhas in collaboration with the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO) and assisted by Chief Education Officer, Ramban, AH Fani, CWSN District Coordinator, Ruhi Kundal and Headmaster, Government High School, Chanderkot, Firdous Ahmed.
The needy children were given wheelchairs, artificial limbs, CP chairs, hearing aids, smart canes, ankle foot orthosis, crutches, elbow crutches and braile kits. These 46 beneficiaries belonged to Batote, Ramban and Gool Education Zones.
Sixty five children having defected eyesight were examined by an Ophthalmic Technician, Jahangir Bhat from SKME, Hospital, Batote. These children will be given spectacles afterwards.
Out of 24 Locomotive Impaired Children, 11 were given Elbow Crutches, ASP shoes, 4 CP Chairs, 1 tricycle and 1 wheel chair. Thirteen children were given Hearing Aids. Eight Intellectually Disabled were given MSEID Kits. One was given Braille Kit with Smart Cane. Besides this out of 65 students’ eyesight of 38 were examined.
In a survey conducted last year by an ALIMCO team the beneficiaries having 21 types of disabilities were assessed.
Yesterday a similar camp was organized at Government High School, Ramsu for Banihal, Khari and Ukhral Educational Zones.
On the occasion, a local visually impaired girl, Nusrat entertained the children, parents and staff with her Bollywood songs.
The ALIMCO team included Shyam Lalit, Neeraj Kumar Verna and Arun Yadav.
