Advisor Ganai reviews supply, stock position of food grains

JAMMU, Oct 17: Advisor to Governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai has directed for timely stocking of food grain in the areas of Jammu and Kashmir facing harsh winters.
He was reviewing the supply and stock position of food grains in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the winter season with especial focus on far-flung and snow bound areas here at Convention Centre.
The meeting was attended by Chairman & Managing Director , Food Corporation of India (FCI), D.V. Prasad, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Khurshid Ahmad Shah; Director, FCS&CA, Kashmir Mohammad Qasim Wani; Director, FCS&CA, Jammu, Jatinder Singh, General Manager (Region), FCI, Sandeep Deora, Joint Director, FCS&CA ,Jammu Shagun Sharma, CAO, FCS&CA, Jammu, Rashim Deepika and other senior officers of the Food Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department and Food Corporation of India(FCI) .
The Advisor had a detailed review of the district wise stock position of the food grains in FCI Godowns.
General Manager(Regional), FCI informed that as on October 15, 2019 the total stock of food grains(rice & wheat) in the FCI Godowns of Jammu region is 110557 MT against the capacity of 117060 MT and 79412 MT against 92830 MT capacity in Kashmir region, while the stock in the depots is 36156 MT against 35010 MT capacity in Ladkah region with total stock in depots at 226125 MT against the capacity of 244900 MT, which is sufficient for 108 days .
The Advisor asked the FCS&CA and FCI authorities to ensure sufficient stock and regular supply of food grains during winter season to avoid any inconvenience to the people.
While reviewing stock of food-grains for Ladakh Division, the Advisor asked the FCI functionaries to consider the suggestion of establishing more FCI Godowns in Drass, Nubra, Zanskar and other areas of Ladakh region which remain cut off during winters for the betterment of the people.
He also passed instructions for taking all necessary measures to ensure hassle-free supplies to snow-bound, remote and inaccessible areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Chairman and MD, FCI underlined the importance of movement cycle of the food grain stock and further called for adopting innovative approach for rationalization of labour forces.
A threadbare discussion was also held pertaining to several important issues between FCS & CA and FCI including allocation under MMSFES for district Ramban, Kishtwar, winter dumping for Marwah/Warwan (Kishtwar) from Mirbazar through e-action under OMSS, advance winter dumping of stock, measures taken for improving the availability of stock, transportation issues during winter and rainy seasons, settlement of pending claims, utilization of available Godowns besides other important financial issues.
