UDHAMPUR, Oct 24: Police foiled two major attempts of smuggling narcotic substances and recovered more than one thousand kg of poppy straw from Kud and Jakheni.
Kud police today recovered 8 quintal 75kg of poppy straw when a police party of Police Station Kud, led by SHO Mohd Amin, under the supervision of SSP Udhampur Rajeev Pandy intercepted one truck PB 06L-0575.
The truck driver, namely Surinder Pal, son of Sadhu Ram of Anandpur Punjab and his associate Inder Jeet Singh, son of Avtar Singh of Anandpur Punjab, were arrested on the spot. Police also seized the poppy straw and the truck. In this connection, a case FIR number 34/19 U/ S 8 /15/29 NDPS ACT has been registered at Police Station Kud and further investigation of the case is going on.
Earlier, 200 kg poppy straw was recovered when a police party of Police Station Udhampur, led by SHO Vijay Singh Choudhary, under the supervision of Dy SP Headquarters Dr Rohit Chadgal and Addl SP Udhampur Rajinder Katoch, intercepted one truck PB07AA-7781 at Jakheni.
Truck driver, identified as Kapil Kumar of Punjab, was arrested on the spot and recovered poppy straw was seized. The vehicle used by the smuggler was also seized. In this connection, a case FIR number 502/19 U/ S 8 /15/29 NDPS ACT was registered at Police Station Udhampur and further investigation of the case is going on.
