JAMMU, Oct 26: In the much publicized Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by an NGO ‘SAVE’ (Save Animal Value Environment) through its Chairperson Devinder Kaur Madaan alias Rumpy Madaan seeking closure of un-regulated and un-registered/un-licensed slaughter houses/meat shops in the State, Division Bench of the State High Court comprising First Pusine Judge Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur has directed the Jammu Municipal Corporation as well as Srinagar Municipal Corporation to carry out the survey of the cities to find out the number of authorized and unauthorized meat vendors and the places where unauthorized slaughtering is being carried out.
After hearing Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed with Advocates Rahul Raina, Supriya Chouhan and Mohd Zulkarnain Chowdhary appearing for the petitioner whereas Senior AAG S S Nanda appearing for H&UDD, SMC, Senior AAG H A Siddiqui appearing for Chairman/Member Secretary/ Regional Director J&K Pollution Control Board and Advocate Sachin Gupta for JMC, DB directed that the court be also apprised of the action proposed to be taken against unauthorized slaughtering and vendors.
The DB also expressed serious concern over the disposal of liquid and solid waste through underground drainage and soakage pits and directed the counsel for J&K Pollution Control Board, Senior AAG H.A. Siddiqui to look into this matter involving health of the people.
The Division Bench also directed Senior AAG S S Nanda as well as Advocate Sachin Gupta appearing for SMC/JMC to apprise the court on the next date of hearing about the latest status of the allotment of tenders for construction of slaughter houses at Jammu and Srinagar especially the Effluent Treatment Plans to be set up for treatment of the effluent generated because of slaughtering of the animals.
