JAMMU, Oct 28: Several residents of Lower Barnai have alleged illegal trespassing of Shamshan Ghat (cremation ground) by a group of persons with the intention to encroach the land even after proper demarcation by the Revenue Department authorities some years back.
A delegation of people visited Excelsior office today and furnished several official documents, which clearly indicated that demarcation of the land was conducted by the Revenue Department authorities some years back.
They said that land measuring 14 kanals and 11 marlas was kept for Shamshan Ghat by the villagers but with the passage of time group of people illegally encroached upon a chunk of land.
When the issue was raised before the concerned authorities of the Revenue Department some years back, the demarcation was conducted and thereafter concrete pillars as well as iron poles were raised to sort out the issue once for all.
However, few days back same group of people again attempted to illegally encroach the land by forcibly digging out the concrete poles and further by putting large quantity of debris, they alleged and informed that matter has also been reported to the Deputy Commissioner for necessary action.
As per the documents shown to Excelsior, Deputy Commissioner has issued directions to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate Jammu North to conduct inquiry and initiate action under law so as to settle the issue. Even SHO Domana has been asked to look into the issue on priority basis so as to avoid law and order situation.
