JAMMU, Oct 28: M K Kaw, former Secretary, HRD Ministry Government of India and ex president of All India Kashmiri Samaj (AIKS) passed away at his New Delhi residence this evening. He was 76. Kaw an IAS Officer served the GOI in various capacities before attaining his age of superannuation as Secretary HRD Ministry.
Soon after his retirement, Kaw took keen interest in community affairs and served as president of AIKS for two terms and took up the issues of the exiled Pandits with GOI and also put his organization into action in ameliorating the lot of displaced people by taking up various measures on social and economic front.
As secretary to the GOI looking after the HRD Department, he was chiefly responsible for providing reservations for the displaced KP community in professional colleges in many states on the same lines as was granted in Maharashtra as well as in KV institutions. Even till recently most of the community leadership would seek his advice on issues pertaining to the community. The void created by his passing away would be very difficult to fill.
Various KP organisations have expressed their profound grief and shock over his demise. President K P Sabha, K K Khosa said every Kashmiri Pandit will remember him for his selfless services to the community. The Sabha has also send a condolence message to his wife Raj Kaw and the bereaved family.
