How precisely could the most brutal and vicious act of Pakistan patronised and trained terrorists be described in respect of barging inside a house and ordering the inmates, the poor labourers not belonging to Kashmir, to line up to be fired upon indiscriminately in Katharsoo village in district Kulgam Kashmir? In this dastardly but most reprehensible attack on unarmed poor non Kashmiris resulted in killing of five labourers on the spot and getting one critically injured. Immediately after committing this gruesome attack, the killers like cowards and namby – pambies took to their heels . The massacred labourers were all from West Bengal having been staying here for some days in a rented room in connection with their livelihood as petty daily wage labourers. By killing these poor labourers what had the perpetrators gained was perhaps known to them only but one thing is certain that such acts of abject inhumanity redoubled the resolve of the Government to intensify efforts and measures against terrorism and related violence.
It may be recalled that this attack was the sixth one in a series of such attacks on non-local people since October 14, 2019 in Kashmir. On October 14, two terrorists and a Pakistani national shot dead the driver of a truck from Rajasthan and attacked an orchard owner in Shopian . On Oct 16, Punjab based apple trader Charanjeet Singh was killed by terrorists . Only on October 28, armed terrorists killed a trucker Narayan Dutt hailing from the town of Katra and though he was a non- local but belonged to the State (now Union Territory) of Jammu and Kashmir. So far, terrorists have mercilessly killed four truckers , one apple trader and seven labourers , all non locals . On October 24, terrorists killed two non Kashmiri truck drivers in Shopian district in south Kashmir.
It could well be seen that a sinister design at the behest of terrorism manufacturing Pakistan to target and kill in cold blood, non local Kashmiris, is being executed which though reprehensible, was a wakeup call for that small section of the Kashmiri society which , perhaps , still had something to buy from such senseless , aimless and destructive plans of Pakistan and its trained terrorists which all were aimed at weakening the fabric and wreaking havoc with the basic socio- cultural structure of the Kashmiri society. They should not only condemn such violence but arrange mass protests against such diabolic plans of Pakistan against Kashmir and Kashmiri people . The time is ripe as never before to rise up against this onslaught by proxy on continuous basis on Kashmir and Kashmiris by Pakistan and any more delay would mean irretrievable multi pronged loss for the Kashmiri society.
Perhaps, not only to circumvent but thwart measures to restore peace , tranquillity and order in the Valley, Pakistan already bruised beyond endurance, is hell bent upon to not only keep sponsored acts of violence simmering in the Valley but through such acts was trying to further internationalise the so called Kashmir issue. The visit of the 23 European Union member Parliamentarians to Kashmir to “assess’ on the spot situation in Kashmir was taken as an affront by Pakistan and its agents active in Kashmir hence spurt in violence on the eve of their visit. However, this visit though in ‘private’ capacity, is the first elite international visit after withdrawal of the special status temporarily granted to Jammu and Kashmir. It is an irony and a misfortune for this country that some opposition leaders chose to raise silly questions on the said visit and cast aspersions on the visiting foreign team of esteemed Parliamentarians which, as usual, was not only taken note of by them but was rebutted too by them in a press conference in Srinagar.
Was the massacre of five innocent labourers in Kashmir committed at the behest of Pakistan to put and vain fully keep an artifice intact of its rhetoric on Kashmir based on lies , manipulations and distortions coinciding with the visit of the EU members? Was Pakistan trying to impose on the EU delegation its own version on Kashmir, based on Goebbelsian principles of propaganda as stone pelting incidents and a shutdown was enacted in the Valley just during their visit to Kashmir? When all these days there was no stone pelting incidents or any forced shut down or even any traffic restrictions , why only on the occasion of the first international members’ visit clearly points out as to who was all behind such acts of violence. Reports that nearly 60000 students appeared in 10th class examinations in the Valley despite diktats of militants proved which way the wind had changed its direction and that clearly was frustrating Pakistan and her agents active in the Kashmir valley. Although attempts were made to scare and prevent the students from appearing in the exams , yet such attempts of militants failed completely.
Whatever aspersions were cast on the members of the EU, still these members extended their full support to India for her efforts for lasting peace and end of terror. While one of the views was that when the EU Parliamentarians were let in , opposition politicians from India too should follow suit. Another member conveyed the feelings of some locals about what plagued Kashmir – the corruption and how Central Government’s funds got lost in the system or never reached the projects or the people . The overall view shared with the media was that terrorism was enemy of humanity and had to be fought out and “We the International Delegation fully support India for its efforts for lasting peace and end of terror , the problem in Kashmir was linked to terror .” Yes, terror and terrorism related violence had to be wiped out and the battle had entered a decisive phase which militants and Pakistan needed to seriously note.
