JAMMU, Nov 1: The Institution’s Innovation Council and University Business Incubation & Innovation Centre and University of Jammu Special Purpose Vehicle Foundation, University of Jammu, today organised an interaction on the theme, “Innovation amidst Adversities”, with globally renowned inventor Sonam Wangchuk, founder, SECMOL, Alternative School, Ladakh, Founding Member, Himalayan Institute of Alternatives (HIAL,) Ladakh, and Inventor of Ice Stupa (artificial glacier).

The objective of the interaction was to enlighten the audience about the innovation as an instrument for solving problems and creating opportunities at local level for budding entrepreneurs.
Sonam Wangchuk elaborated that the entrepreneurship, innovation and resultant start-up creation need not necessarily to be a commercial business model. Contrary innovative thought process needs to be developed wherein local community issues can be taken up through creation of small budget start-ups thereby spurring the social entrepreneurship across region. He categorically mentioned empathy as the biggest entrepreneurial value that need to be harnessed for solution delivery and contentment realisation.
His talk showcased the innovation journey of Ladakh, wherein the reengineering of Ladakh education system through innovation centric engagements has created warehouses of innovative projects in the form of Ice Stupas, SECMOL School and HIAL. He clearly stated that historical wisdom needs to be blended with the science of present for creating sustainable future. The Third pole enterprise, one of the innovative outcome of the SECMOL, exemplified the ways in which the trans Himalayan natural resource pool can be potential start-up creation hubs for delivering solutions to the communities at local and global level.
Vice Chancellor JU, Professor Manoj Dhar, applauded the IIC and UBIIC-UoJ SPV Foundation, University of Jammu for bringing best innovative minds in the region at large and JU in particular for developing innovation and entrepreneurial hub in the varsity. He said that deliberations of the today’s event are indicative of the fact the multidisciplinary thought processes possesses the capacity to innovate, co-create and deliver solutions.
Earlier, Professor Parikshat Singh Manhas, President IIC & UBIIC and UOJSPV Foundation, reflected upon the importance of having inventors rather than innovators for building a dynamic innovation ecosystem in the region of Jammu and Kashmir. He deliberated the future roles and responsibilities to be undertaken by the IIC including creation of Atal Community Innovation Mission hub in the University that will spur grass root level innovations and will create vibrant community of innovators, job creators and inventors.
