SAMBA, Mar 15: Hundreds of West Pakistani refugees mainly youth held a protest demonstration at Swamkha Morh near Vijaypur here, in support of their demands. The protest was organized by West Pakistani Refugee Action Committee (WPRAC) and led by its president, Labba Ram Gandhi.
The protestors expressed their anguish by raising slogans against the Government for not fulfilling their demands.
Addressing the protestors, Gandhi said even after the lapse of many decades, the migrants of 1947, 1965 and 1971 are not given the right of permanent citizenship and other rights in the State.
In 2008, UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi had assured the West Pakistani refugees that their children will get priority for recruitment in armed forces, but it is very disappointing that the children of West-Pak refugees are deprived of getting any recruitment in State cadre as well as Centre, he said, adding the reason is that they don’t have a permanent citizenship of India certificate.
Reiterating the demand of citizenship right for the West Pakistani refugees, Gandhi warned UPA Chairperson and State Government of strong agitation if their demands are not met within one month.
