CM for comprehensive development plan for Srinagar Eidgah

JAMMU, Mar 16: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today said that there is a need for comprehensive development plan for Eidgah Srinagar to make it one of the most beautiful and developed places in the country.
“We want a comprehensive plan for improvement and upgradation of Eidgah and create befitting drainage system there to make it one of the most beautiful places in the country”, he told the Legislative Assembly while intervening during the Question Hour.
He said that Speaker Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul is convening a meeting of concerned departments in this regard, adding that a holistic plan needs to be formulated so that work is taken in hand accordingly.
Earlier, in reply to the question of Peer Afaq Ahmad, Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmed Mir informed the House that development of historical Eidgah was taken in hand during 2004-05 at a cost of Rs 1.72 crore under Integrated Circuit Development Scheme under which ornamental fencing, development of park, construction of footpath and lavatory block along with waste disposal, administrative-cum-ticket block and shelter shed and lighting arrangements have been executed by J&K Wakaf Board.
He said that another project of Rs 3.50 crore was also under execution under which development of Eidgah prayer ground by way of earth-filling, chain link fencing, debris stone pillars, construction of gate, ornamental grill fencing, extracting and relaying of turf, restoration of water body and installation of fountains are being carried out. He said these works would be completed during next fiscal.
