NEW DELHI, Nov 16:Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad pitched for complete digitisation of India’s workspace and said that technological advancement will enable the country to leverage Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance it’s health, education and agriculture sector.
Any product or equipment whose function can be controlled using internet falls under the category of IoT. In a nutshell, the Internet of Things is the concept of connecting any device (so long as it has an on/off switch) to the Internet and to other connected devices.
Mr Prasad made the remark while addressing a conference here on Friday night on the Government of India’s vision of advancing smart skills and new age technologies for connectivity, sustainability, design and innovation to make the future of work more productive and accessible to women, youth and other communities.
The Minister said that in order to bring more women into workforce, the workspace for women in villages should be digitised on priority basis.
Underlining India’s growth in mobile manufacturing, Mr Prasad said, “In the beginning of 21st century, Indian had only two mobile factories but now the numbers have increased to 268. India is the second largest mobile manufacturing country in the world.”
“Technology creates opportunity. It empowers and expands and given India’s aspirations, hope and market size we will be a $ 5 trillion economy by 2022 or 2023,” the minister added, highlighting that tech-biggies like WhatsApp, Facebook and Twitter have biggest presence in India.
