Congress workers protest against garbage dumping at Kheri

UDHAMPUR, Nov 26: Up in arms against garbage dumping at Kheri, a protest demonstration was organized by Congress workers under the leadership of Sumeet Magotra, here today while Congress Councilor Preeti Khajuria has justified the NGT action against Municipal Council Udhampur.
The protesting Congress workers were raising slogans against Municipal Council Udhampur for its irresponsible working and dumping of garbage at Kheri area even after fined by the NGT. The protesters also forced the garbage dumping vehicles to return from Kheri.
Sumeet Magotra said that even as NGT has imposed a fine of Rs 1.59 crores on Municipal Council Udhampur with immediately effect and given instruction to the MCU to stop this unhygienic practice which may cause a danger to human life, the employees of MCU have continued this anti people practice. Magotra warned the Municipal Council to immediately stop the dumping of solid waste at Khri area or face gherao.
Meanwhile, Congress Councilor Preeti Khajuria has justified the penalty of Rs 1.39 crores by NGT.
Talking to media persons, here today, she said that NGT has worked to awaken the sleeping Municipal president. “It is not that the NGT not warned the Municipal Department and the President earlier, but due to President’s negligence and slack attitude, the NGT was forced to impose a fine,” she said.
Preeti Khajuria said that in the very first meeting after the formation of the Municipal Council, she had passed the resolution to shift the dumping yard from Kheri Jakheni for which all the 21 Councilors had agreed and the proposal was given to the Municipal President but till date no action was taken.
