SRINAGAR, Nov 27: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today convened a meeting to review the progress being made for the disposal of garbage and to contain dog menace in Kashmir.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner SMC, Khurshid Ahmad Sanai, SSP Srinagar, Haseeb Mugal, Additional Commissioner Kashmir, Tasaduq Hussain Mir, Revenue Attorney, Qazi Masood and other senior officers.
Deputy Commissioners of various districts of Kashmir attended the meeting through video conferencing.
During the meeting, a threadbare discussion was held on the measures being taken by SMC and other departments for removal and disposal off garbage from Srinagar and other towns by SMC and Municipal committees.
The Divisional Commissioner directed all the concerned departments including SMC to ensure complete removal of garbage from Srinagar city.
He also directed Irrigation and Flood Control Department to play a proactive role in removing makeshift lavatories along river banks-saying that status report with photographic evidence should be presented before his office.
He said that special drive should be initiated near hospitals and nursing homes for removal of garbage and other bio-medical waste.
He also directed SMC to remove garbage in morning and evening shifts.
He directed the SMC Commissioner to provide dust bins to butchers and chicken sellers for disposal of waste items. The similar directions were given to DC’s.
He said that under B2V2 programme, special emphases is being given for initiating cleanliness drive along all roads and lanes in rural areas.
The Divisional Commissioner was briefed about the decisions being taken for eradicating dog menace. He instructed the officers to carry out proper sterilization of dogs, besides taking measures to achieve tangible results.
The Deputy Commissioners gave a detailed presentation about various initiatives taken to improvise cleanliness and garbage disposal in their districts.
