JAMMU, Nov 28: Ring Road Kissan Sangharsh Samiti (RRKSS) has sought intervention of J&K Lieutenant Governor for sympathetically resolving the demands of the small and marginalized farmers, whose land is being acquired for Ring Road project at Jammu on a meager compensation.
Addressing a press conference here today, the leaders of RRKSS said despite getting repeated promises from various ends including Home Minister Amit Shah for compensating the farmers as per the Central Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 commonly known as REFCTLARR Act, no action has been initiated by the Government so far. “The land under acquisition is highly valuable multi-crop agricultural land, which is being acquired for as song at less than 1/30th (and even less) of the market value. This acquisition is bound to push the farming community to the brink of starvation,” they said, adding, some self-immolations have already been attempted by few farmers and they do not want any other farmer to take this extreme step.
The leaders of the Samiti made a fervent appeal to J&K LG Girish Chandra Murmu to intervene into the issue and ensure fair compensation to the farmers at least in tune with REFCTLARR Act of 2013 as assured by the Prime Minister in his ‘Man Ki Baat’ address i.e. 4-6 times of the market value and proper rehabilitation to the families losing their habitation.
