7 locations identified in Kargil for setting up of wildlife sanctuaries

KARGIL, Dec 2: Executive Councillor for Forests and Wildlife Muhammad Ali Chandan launched the Wildlife Campus Caravan Campaign at Degree College here today.
The Wildlife Campus Caravan Campaign is a mobile wildlife awareness and capacity building initiative organized by the Wildlife Protection Division Kargil in collaboration with the Centre for Wildlife Studies and Conservation, Government Degree College Kargil with the objective to generate wider wildlife awareness and conservation consciousness among people especially school and college students.
Regional Wildlife Warden Ladakh Muhammad Sajid Sultan, Principal Government Degree College Kargil Dr Amina Qari, Engineering Head AIR Kargil Shahid Anwar Khan, Wildlife Warden Kargil Raza Ali Abidi, Assistant Professors of the college, other concerned officers, media persons and students were present on the occasion.
The EC while underlining the urgent need for conservation measures for stability of natural resources while understanding the relation between humans and biodiversity said that wildlife conservation measures assume greater significance in the present times so that the future generations are allowed to live in cohesion with nature and natural surroundings.
Making mention of conservation approaches and long-term initiatives by the Hill Council for wildlife conservation in the district, the EC said that 7 locations have been proposed by the Council for setting up wildlife sanctuaries while as requirement of 40 wildlife guards has also been taken up with the UT Administration Ladakh. The EC further said that concrete steps will be taken by the Hill Council to ensure that wildlife conservation activities in the district get much needed fillip besides the chances of human wildlife conflict are also minimized.
Regional Wildlife Warden Ladakh Muhammad Sajid Sultan who also spoke on the occasion said that Kargil has unmatchable biodiversity and need of the hour is to understand and value it and take collective efforts by all concerned stakeholders to conserve it before it goes into oblivion.
Earlier, Wildlife Warden Kargil Raza Ali Abidi through a detailed power point presentation enlightened the guests and participants about the schedule of activities to be undertaken during the campaign.
Principal Government Degree College Kargil Dr Amina Qari during the welcome speech extended welcome to the dignitaries and participants while as Head Department of Zoology Degree College Kargil Dr Javed Naqi conducted the proceedings of the programme and delivered the vote of thanks at the end.
