JAMMU, Dec 4: On demand of the faculty members and students, Jammu University today ordered removal of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia from headship of the Geology Department.
The action was taken after a Fact Finding Committee prima facie established the allegations against Prof Jasrotia, who was accused of using foul language and harassing the students as well as faculty members.
The committee, comprising Prof Meena Sharma, Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Prof Prikshit Singh Manhas, Prof Baljinder Singh and Vinay Thussoo, was constituted late last night after students and faculty members of the Geology Department went on indefinite strike demanding removal of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia from headship of the Department.
In its preliminary report, the committee found allegations against Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia prima facie correct and recommended necessary action.
Acting on the recommendation of the committee, Jammu University issued an order, according to which Prof Jasrotia was relieved from the headship of the Department of Geology with immediate effect.
Following the order, students and faculty members of the Geology Department called off their strike.
