PDD employees demand halt on unbundling

Srinagar, Dec 4: The Jammu and Kashmir Power Employees Coordination Committee today said that the privatization of the Power Development Department was anti-employees and anti department, while demanding immediate halt on the process.
Over 200 employees of PDD gathered at the PDD office near Exhibition Ground and protested against the privatization. They termed the move as illogical and warned against the move, saying that there will be ‘consequences’ if the decision was not taken back.
They said that the Government is heading towards the privatization and unbundling without taking the stakeholders on board, while it was yet to redress the pending issues of the employees.
The employees appealed to the administration to establish a commission and make efforts to stop such a move. They alleged that Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Department has issued tenders regarding the process of unbundling on the behest of Central Government.
They said that the employees will intensify their protest if the process of unbundling is not stopped, “whatever happens then, the government will be solely responsible for that,” they said.
They said that they welcome every step taken by the Govt to streamline the J&K PDD and power infrastructure purely beneficial for the department and public, “but there are few officers who are pushing the department to the failure; those officers must be held accountable for their work,” they demanded.
