JAMMU, Dec 5: Representatives of over a dozen organizations of Jammu today pledged their support to the Bandh Call announced by NPP on December 7, seeking lifting of ban on mobile internet services, disbanding of Sarore Toll Plaza, soaring prices of essential commodities, token tax on vehicles besides policy of bias perpetuated against Jammu region even after the Reorganization of State.
The support to Jammu Bandh was announced through a unanimous resolution passed in a meeting convened by JKNPP chairman and former minister Harsh Dev Singh at his residence this evening.
The signatories to the resolution included Manish Sahni- president Shiv Sena (Bal Thackerey); Inderjeet Khajuria Chairman Jammu Pariyatan Vikas Mandal & All Jammu Hotel Lodges Association; Piran Ditta- president Guru Ravi Dass Sabha Jammu; Raj Kumar Babbar- president Swarnkar Sangh Jammu Province; Pritam Sharma- president Kranti Dal; Rajiv Mahajan- president Ram Sena Jammu; Dev Raj Saini- chairman Railway Station Tourist Taxi Union Jammu; Harbans Gurmeet Singh- president Rajinder Bazar Association; Hardeep Singh -president Moti Bazar Businessmen Society; Chander Udhay Sharma general secretary Gandhi Nagar Residents Association; Anshu Sharma president MAM College Students Union; Mahesh Bakshi president Law Deptt. Jammu University Students Union; Jatin Sharma president Commerce College; Japneet Kour president Gandhi Nagar College Students Union; Sunpreet Kour president Parade College Students Union; Bansi Lal Sodhi general secretary Tourist Taxi Association; Jagjit Singh President Jammu Swarankar Sabha Jammu; Zeeshan Mehra Vice President MAM College Students Union; Ravinder Singh Vice President Taxi Union Railway Station besides others.
State unit of Bahujan Samaj Party, Dogra Saddar Sabha, Jammu Pragti Manch, Akhil Bhartiya Kashyap Sabha have already extended their support for Jammu bandh call on Dec 7.
Meanwhile, Harsh Dev while asserting that call for Dec 7 Jammu Bandh had received overwhelming response from students and youth in particular, today appealed the civil society to participate and support the Panthers Party’s initiative against the ‘authoritarian moves’ of the Government.
Talking to the media-persons Singh said that demand for restoration of mobile internet though was being raised from various quarters but different organizations were also holding separate rallies and protests over the issue. He said joint efforts needed to be made so as to awaken the Government to the inconvenience and sufferings caused to the varied sections of society due to communication blockade. “Rather than indulging in a cacophony of voices, let’s all speak in one harmonious chorus as we are all fighting for the same cause,” he said.
While accusing the Govt of imposing unfriendly and unwholesome decisions on the public, he said that installation of “Toll Plazas” in and around Jammu, transfer of registration powers from judicial officers, imposition of 9% token tax on new vehicles and soaring prices of staple vegetables, pulses and other essential commodities had sparked massive outrage with people desperately seeking an occasion to ventilate their grievances.
NPP chief patron Prof Bhim Singh has also made an appeal to the people of Jammu to support Jammu Bandh call given by NPP for December 7.
