Ladakh road to be opened for vehicular traffic in April

KARGIL, Mar 19: The life line of Ladakh NH 1D, which connects Ladakh with the rest of the world and remains closed for six months, will open for vehicular traffic in the month of April.
This was stated by Commanding Officer BRTF, Col Harish Kumar to the team of LAHDC headed by Acting Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC Kargil, Haji Ghulam Amir Kamran, at Shaitan Nallah Zojjila.
Kamran was accompanied by Executive Councilor for Tourism and Zanskar Affairs, Engineer Punchok Tashi, Deputy Commissioner Kargil, Fida Hussain, CMO Dr Shabir Hussain, Deputy SP Aslam and other district officers.
The highway was closed for traffic after heavy snowfall and avalanches at Zojjila for the last 5 months and this year the snow clearance work will be completed in record one month in advance, said CO, BRTF.
Col Harish told that the clearance work from Drass to Shaitan Nallah has been completed in record time of 14 days and after four days they will reach Zero Point, which is five kilometer away from Shaitan Nallah.
Haji Ghulam Amir Kamran, Engineer Punchok Tashi and DC Fida Hussain appreciated the commendable job of the BRO Officials in snow clearance work and presented them, gifts and traditional Khatak.
The Project Beacon from Srinagar side has reached up to Captain Morh and will reach to the target in record time.
On this occasion, the Acting Chief Executive Councilor thanked and appreciated the role played by the ‘Project VIJAYAK’ officials, particularly Col Harish Kumar. He also appreciated the progress of Project Beacon.
The team later on way to Kargil inspected the working in various schools from Matayen to Drass and suspended 10 members of teaching staff who were not present on duty. The team also inspected the working of the Sub District Hospital Drass and appreciated the role of the paramedics.
