Cement tiles manufacturing units at verge of closure: BBIA

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Dec 6: Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA) has claimed that cement tiles manufacturing units in the region are at the verge of closure.
A meeting of the BBIA was held today under the chairmanship of its president, Lalit Mahajan in presence of other members including Tarun Singla, Ajay Langer, Viraaj Malhotra, Rajesh Jain, Vivek Singhal and others, where in the members discussed the issue in respect of ban Imposed on the extraction of sand and Bajri by PCB due to which the Industrial units engaged in the manufacturing of cement tiles and other related products facing acute problem.
It is pertinent to mention here that the sand and gravel is the basic raw materials for the Units engaged in the manufacturing of cement tiles and other related products resulting total stoppage of production of the units and the unit holders have no option but to close down their units if immediate relief not provided by removing the ban on the purchase of sand and bajri from the contractors to whom the Geology & Mining Department granted the rights of extraction.
BBIA members said on the directions of the NGT and State Pollution Control Board, the extraction of sand and gravel has been banned as the approval of the State Environmental Assessment Authority is pending with the aprox 40 firms to whom the contract has been awarded by the Geology and Mining Department, but the concerned authority is taking the issue casually for the grant of permission, resulting the Industrial units are suffering and many project work and civil construction works have been hit.
Due to non availability of raw materials the units are facing huge financial losses. They are not able to pay Bank Interest on the money borrowed and are not in a position to pay the wages/ power Bills/GST payments.
BBIA urged upon the Lt. Governor Girish Chandra Murmu to intervene into the matter and issue necessary directions to the concerned agencies.
