LMD imposes Rs 56700 fine on erring traders

SAMBA, Dec 7: A team of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) under the supervision of the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba Rajesh Heera conducted series of inspections of various business establishments in this district.
During the inspection, the Inspector Legal Metrology Samba Jagdeep Raj booked 17 traders for violation of various provisions of Weights and Measures (Enforcement) Act and Packaged Commodities Rules 2011.
On pleading guilty, cases were compounded on the spot for Rs 56700 by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Samba with the assurance from the defaulter traders that the offences will not be repeated in future, failing which their cases will be sent to the court of law for stringent action.
The department has directed all the traders to use only verified weights and measures for business transaction and ensure that all the package commodities sold to the consumers must bear the Max Retail Price, Packing Date, Net Content, Complete Address and Consumer Care Number.
The department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist from using unfair trade practices to cheat the innocent consumers and also appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the commodities.
