We salute the proud daughter of the soil, Rehana Akhter, a Nurse working at SKIMS for her highly dedicated and distinguished service to the community that won her President’s National Florence Nighingale Award 2012. Prior to it, she has won other awards also and has established her right to be among the outstanding persons of the State in service to humanity. She is an intellectual of class having authored nearly twenty books relevant to the profession she has adopted. The State is proud of her. Her example tells us that we have no dearth of talent. All that is needed is provide exposure to the talent, meaning the opportunity where these can be demonstrated and allowed to flourish. She has set an example for the womenfolk of our State who decide to adopt Nursing profession, the most honourable and humanistic profession one can imagine. Her dedication to the profession and deep understanding of its niceties prompted her to put her experience in black and white. As a result she has as many as twenty publications to her credit. We very rarely come across a practicing nurse also interested in writing things about her profession. We are confident that her glorious example of service to humanity will be emulated by all those who have adopted nursing as their profession in life. Rehana Akhter will go down as an icon for them.
