JAMMU, Dec 14: Drug and Food Control Organization today stopped operation of four Sanyog pharmacies being run in Jammu Hospitals.
Official sources told Excelsior that Drug Controller today ordered closure of four pharmacy shops being run in Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Government Psychiatric Hospital, Government Super Speciality Hospital and Government Dental College, Jammu as the period for which the tender was allotted to Sanyog Enterprises Private Limited, had already lapsed.
“In separate notices issued today, the sale of these four pharmaceutical outlets have been stopped by the Drug Controller and the company has been asked to vacate the premises used by them in these hospitals within one month,” sources informed, adding that these pharmacies were being run illegally since November 2018 when their permission of three years lapsed.
According to the sources, the tender to open 55 pharmacies shops in Government Hospitals of Jammu Province including GMC Jammu and its Associated Hospitals as well as Government Dental College Jammu, was allotted to Sanyog Enterprises Private Limited in the year 2015 for a period of three years but against allotment of 55 locations only 22 shops were presently running.
They said their tender period had already been expired in November 2018 and despite serving notices to these pharmacies by J&K Medical Supplies Corporation (JKMSC), the company had been running these shops illegally. “Moreover, a petition was also filed in J&K High Court by one Sanjay Kumar after which the High Court ordered fresh tendering at the earliest,” sources further informed but regretted that JKMSC failed to do fresh tendering.
Principal GMC Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina confirmed that sale of Sanyog pharmacies in the premises of GMC Jammu, Government Psychiatric Hospital and Government Super Speciality Hospital have been stopped but is not clear whether operation of other 18 pharmacies in various Government hospitals across Jammu province have been stopped or not as neither Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education, Atal Dulloo nor Drug Controller, Lotika Khajuria responded to the repeated calls of this correspondent.
