Kulgam, Dec 17: People in twin towns of Kulgam and Shopian are facing hardships due to the inaction of the authorities in clearing the snow on roadsides that accumulated after the fresh snowfall last week.
They said that due to snow, the traffic sees unprecedented congestion and the pedestrians are facing trouble in both the towns of South Kashmir.
“They have cleared the snow from the roads in the town, however, they have not bothered in clearing the snow that has now accumulated on the roadsides. They don’t care about the traffic jams and trouble that people face,” said Arshid Ahmad Lone, a resident of Kulgam told Excelsior, adding that the inaction of Municipal Committee, Kulgam has put them to great trouble.
They said that the snow on the roadsides gives tough time to the shopkeepers who are facing trouble in carrying out their business.
Another resident of Kulgam said that he was caught up in the traffic for more than an hour. “The journey which used to take not more than 10 minutes, took me an eternity; all because of this accumulated snow,” he said.
Same is the case in Shopian, where the residents are saying that they too are facing immense issues due to the inaction of the administration-particularly the Municipal Committee, Shopian. “There is no question of walking along the roadsides-it’s too slippery; the concerned should take measures and clear the snow that has accumulated,” said Muhammad Tufail Boda, a resident of Shopian.
When the issue was brought to the notice of Chairman Municipal Committee Kulgam, he told Excelsior that the matter will be looked into. “I will direct the Executive Engineer to do the required in this regard,” he said.
