JAMMU, May 13: Judge Elizabeth Pesala of ethic Indian heritage is the first Indian American Judge honoured by the Nassau County Bar Association having served as an Associate Justice for village of Westbury.
Dr Parveen Chopra, a former Commissioner of Planning & Chairman of the Human Rights Commission, has been honored with the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, a distinction he shares with six former Presidents of the United States of America.
Dr Chopra is the first Indian American to be honored by the New York State Bar Association with the Haywood Burns Memorial Award as well as the Nassau County Bar Association’s Liberty Bell Award for the promotion of justice and rights. Samir Chopra recipient of the International Walter Upjohn Award currently is a Member of the Board of the Hindu Center (2nd largest Hindu Temple in the North America) and formerly served on the Board of the South Asian Bar Association.
He currently serves as President -Elect of Indian Americans of New York. Also honored is Angelo Mangia, former counsel to the State Senate majority, both have received the Nassau Bar Association President’s Award for keeping members informed of pending local, state and National legislation.
