LEH, Dec 19: Chairman/CEC LAHDC Leh, Gyal P Wangyal convened a meeting, here today, to discuss the issues of students studying in EJM College Leh and other colleges of Ladakh regarding continuous delay in timely conduct of their annual exams, backlog exams and pending results since the inception of degree college in Ladakh.
Executive Councillor for Education Konchok Stanzin, Commissioner Secretary Rigzin Samphel, Vice Chancellor, Ladakh University C Phuntsog and DC/CEO, LAHDC Leh, Sachin Kumar were present in the meeting.
The meeting had a threadbare discussion on the grievances and demands put forth by student representatives semester wise from 2015 to 2019 batch studying in EJM College Leh and other colleges in Kargil affecting the career of local students. The Chair decided to convene a high level joint meeting of both the Hill Councils of Leh and Kargil with Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University, UT Administration Ladakh, Secretary Higher Education UT J&K and students representatives of Ladakh in coming days to seek permanent solution for these issues.
C Phuntsog stressed on the need to put in the agenda of joint meeting to discuss the future course of University of Ladakh in the new set up of UT Ladakh. Rector Satellite Campus, Leh was asked to prepare a detail proposal to strengthen the existing Examination Cells of both Taru in Leh and Kumbathang in Kargil before the upcoming joint meeting to address all the exams and results related issues.
Commissioner Secretary, Rigzin Samphel pointed out the lack of interest on part of University of Kashmir in owning the University of Ladakh and said that there is human error and not systematic error. He stressed on the need to draft a SOP to ensure a robust system with strict timeline and responsibility with Kashmir University. He also assured to consider the demands raised by college students like heating system, transport facilities, etc in the upcoming budget.
Rector Satellite Campus Leh, Prof Farooq Ahmad Khan, Controller of Examination Prof Deskyong Namgyal, Dr Tsewang Motup Principal Degree College Nubra and student union representatives, including president SOUL Rigzin Dorjey and students of EJM College representing batch from 2015 to 2019 also attended the meeting.
