JAMMU, Dec 20: 7th Battalion of SSB Jammu celebrated 56th Raising Day with great enthusiasm and zeal.
The main event was organized at Jammu, in which Manvendra, DIG SHQ (Spl Ops) SSB Jammu was chief guest and many other dignitaries were also present to grace the occasion.
Chief guest Manvendra said that SSB is doing praiseworthy work on the border as well as in CI(OPS), ANO and others duties. He extended his best wishes to the brave personnel of the force and their family members.
On the occasion, Chain Singh, Asstt Comdt SI(GD), Bachan Lal, ASI(GD), Bal Krishan and CT(SB) Jagdish Raj were decorated with DGs Disc and DGs Commendation for their meritorious service.
At the outset, Ajay Kumar, Commandant 7th Bn SSB, threw light on history and formation of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). He said that the SSB was setup on December 20, 1963 as Special Service Bureau under cabinet. The primary task of the force was to inculcate feeling of nationalism among the border population and assist them in developing their capabilities far resistance through a continuous process of motivation, training, development, welfare programme and activities with the motto “Seva, Suraksha and Bandhutava”.
From the Cabinet, the SSB was transferred under the administrative control of MHA, GoI in 2001 and assigned the duties of manning the Nepal and Bhutan border and the SSB was renamed at Sashastra Seema Bal. Some of Bns of SSB are also deployed in CI(OPS), ANO and L WE area.
7 Bn SSB is presently deployed in Jammu, Ramban and Doda since January 1, 2017 and performing the CI(OPS) duties, L&O duty, VIP security and many other duties assigned by the J&K administration. Apart from CI(OPS) duty, the force has taken various initiatives to bring the youth from the far flung area into the main stream through welfare programme & civic action programme.
Recently this unit has organized Bharat Darshan Tour for 47 youths of far flung areas from Jammu to Trivandrum, Kanyakumari and another group of 47 youths is presently on tour from Jammu to Bangalore & Mysore.
Recently 7 BN SSB in joint operation played pivotal role in elimination of three dreaded terrorists in Batote under command of Ajay Kumar, Commandant, and the role of SSB during operation was highly appreciated by the administration.
