JAMMU, Dec 20: The 4th Manzer Azmi Memorial Lecture was organized today by the Department of Urdu, University of Jammu in collaboration with the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language and Literature, Ministry of HRD, Govt of India, New Delhi(NCPUL).
The thought provoking lecture was delivered by Dr Taqi Abedi a Canadian Urdu scholar. The topic of the lecture was “Firaq Ki Rubyooun Ke Roop”.
In his lecture, Dr Taqi Abedi discussed various aspects of the poetry of Firaq Gorkpuri, particularly his Rubuyat was discussed in detail. He informed that Firaq Gorakhpuri gave new dimensions to Urdu poetry. In this regard, Dr Taqi Abedi quoted various Urdu verses of Firaq Gorakhpuri. Participants also asked various questions to Dr Taqi Abedi who replied in a befitting manner.
Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu, who was chief guest on the occasion, described Department of Urdu in JU as the most active department on the campus, which is organizing literary activities frequently. He also discussed the role of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language and Literature for the promotion of Urdu language and informed that throughout India the National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language and Literature is doing good job for the promotion of Urdu language.
Earlier, Prof Shohab Inayat Malik, Dean Faculty of Arts and HoD Urdu, informed that Manzer Azmi Lecture was sanctioned to the department by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language and Literature, New Delhi in 2010 and since then the department has been organizing the lecture regularly. He said that Manzer Azmi served Department of Urdu as lecturer, Reader, Professor and Head.
On this occasion, special number of “Hakeem-ul-Ummat”, a literary organ on Taqi Abedi was also released by Prof Manoj Kumar Dhar. The “Hukeem ul Ummat” is being published from Srinagar, Kashmir by Zafer Haideri. The various literary personalities have written on the art and literature of Dr Taqi Abedi. The special number contains 332 pages.
The proceeding of the program was conducted by Dr Mohd Reyaz Ahmed while Dr A R Manhas presented the vote of thanks.
