BDC Chairpersons of UT Ladakh to get monthly honorarium of Rs 15000

LEH, Dec 21: The administration of UT Ladakh has sanctioned a monthly honorarium of Rs 15000/ – to the BDC Chairperson(s) of UT Ladakh.
The Block Development Council(s) was constituted recently by the UT administration in terms of a Statutory Order No.04 dated 29-11-2019.
The order in this regard was issued by Secretary Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Department Ladakh, Saugat Biswas, which reads that in accordance with the provisions of the J&K Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, the BDC Chairpersons of Ladakh will now get a monthly honorarium of Rs 15000/- from November 29, 2019 i.e the date, the BDCs were constituted. The monthly honorarium will also include telephone/mobile usage charges and as fixed travelling allowances.
The UT administration also enhanced the monthly honorarium of the Sarpanchs from the existing Rs 2500/- to Rs 3000/-
It is pertinent to mention that election for the Chairpersons(s) of Block Development Councils was held for the first time this year and in Ladakh. 31 BDC Chairpersons, were elected for 16 and 15 blocks of Leh and Kargil districts respectively. The monthly honorarium of Rs 15000/- is one of the highest honorarium being paid to the BDC Chairperson(s) or Block Pramukhs in the country. The demand of the enhancement of the honorarium of Sarpanchs and fixation of honorarium to the chairpersons of the newly constituted BDCs was raised by the elected representative during the conference of the Lt Governor Ladakh on November 30, 2019 which has fulfilled the UT administration within the shortest possible time.
